Victor, or “Victorious,” at the age of 26, I have been incredibly passionate and dedicated to exercising. More specifically, powerbuilding – which is a hybrid between “powerlifting,” and “bodybuilding.” I have been physically active since I could remember, with my parents starting my Martial Arts roots when I was five years old. I’ll try to keep this story relatively quick by skipping through many years of my life.

Since the beginning, I have always been an active male, being in martial arts from the time I was young, all the way into my late teens. My father also somewhat introduced me to the world of lifting, by taking me to Bally’s (yeah, that long ago). I remember seeing a room full of massive machines, with what looked to be some pretty damn heavy weight. He saw me looking in, and he simply told me never go there, because I’ll get hurt. Granted, I was really young, so I wasn’t about to go in there and start going ape shit, so I refrained. We always went to the pool at Bally’s, but I was always curious about the room. I never participated however, in any soccer leagues the way all my Culmore (a neighborhood in Virginia) friends did, I was always a home-body, my parents never left me out of their sight. I was not allowed to participate in anything sport-related, because of risk of injury. At the time, I’d get frustrated and angry with my parents, but now that I’m 26, I see why they did what they did, and I appreciate and thank them every day.

During my teen years, I attended four different high schools, not because of me getting kicked out (although I was a rebel from middle school to late high school), but because of some unfortunate financial hardships my family and I faced, we lost the homes we lived in, and we had to always find something that we could afford. Thankfully, it was never anything smaller than a two bedroom, two bathroom apartment – so I guess it wasn’t all poverty. Around mid 2006, I became hooked on a game called “Maple Story,” which is a MMORPG (Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game – for those who don’t know), and I instantly dropped all physical activity for this game. It was to the point that my academics suffered greatly, I’d stay up late, skip school, I’d even “borrow” my mother’s credit card and purchase little things for my avatar. This game was insanely popular, and caused enough hype that it even made it on the news. Google “Maple Story Fox News” for the ridiculous story.

For two years, I spent my entire summer and days off from school, sitting on my couch playing this game. I went through a couple computers and a laptop for this game. Tons of money was spent on this game, and I mean tons – thousands+. Eventually, my mother started to get on me about my weight, saying I should stop this cyber life, and start going out and get some exercise. At the time, I didn’t give a flying fidoodle about going out and having fun – I just wanted to level up and acquire the next weapon. I apparently put on so much weight, that it took a family photo for me to realize it. Every day in the mirror, I saw that cool, chill, slick kid – and the one photo my family and I took at church, instantly changed my life. I was massive. I’d post a picture, but I don’t have one, otherwise everyone would LE GASP at it and turn their lives around too.

So what better way to ring in the new year in 2008, than by buying a gym membership at – lol yeah, Bally’s! The same gym my father took me to, was the same gym I’d embark on the journey of always being forever small (more on this later). My mother purchased my first gym membership, and I started lifting. The weird thing however, unlike most new year’s resolutioners who fall off the wagon, I actually stuck to this. BOOM!!!!! My nooby gains came in. I spent months in the gym, and oh hell was I looking good. I lost the weight I had accumulated over the two years I spent living as a hermit while playing a Dragon Knight online, and I started getting compliments left and right. My lifestyle completely changed, I started caring about what I ate, what I did, and thus I got into the sports nutrition aspect (this will be covered later).

FAST FORWARD EIGHT YEARS, I have been lifting for the past EIGHT YEARS without taking many days off unless I NEEDED to, even sacrificing family and friend time (I know, no bueno), but I had to. Needless to say, I built a fantastic foundation for myself, I was lifting very heavy, following a “bro-split” that consisted of different body parts on different days. Things have gone well, and I was even accused of taking _____ by my own doctors, because I looked that great. From the first year of lifting, I managed to hit a 315 deadlift, 225 squat, and a poverty bench – I believe it was around 185ish? Anyway.

Because of the three main big exercises, I have always been able to put on different types of muscles that weren’t so dominant in other people that did chest four times a week, had an arm day every day, and abs on Saturdays. I always incorporated some sort of powerlifting movement in my regimen, even olympic lifts such as Power clean and press, hang cleans, etc. In the past year now however, I have been performing both powerlifting AND bodybuilding styles for two main reasons.

  1. Powerlifting movements will allow your body to excel in terms of strength, while building muscles that bodybuilding alone may not be too successful in building.
  2. Powerlifting allows you to tax your body much harder than any other lifting style out there (besides Strongman), and forces your body to grow.
  3. Powerlifting will put on slabs of thick, dense muscle as stated in bullet 1.
  4. Bodybuilding allows me to train in the higher rep range in order to work on bringing out muscular detail and improving muscular endurance.
  5. Bodybuilding allows me to carve and chisel my muscles (figuratively of course) in the way that I want them to be, so that I can have the aesthetically pleasing physique, while having the strength and power to back it up.

These two styles together will offer TONS of fantastic benefits that will elicit insane gainzzzzzz. You want to build a powerful yet beautiful physique? Look no where than powerbuilding. There are tons of different workout plans you can find on the interwebs, from full-body workouts, to bro-splits, to endurance-centered workouts, and everything else. Powerbuilding however, is a different style that truly isn’t for the faint of heart. It takes balls, it takes blood, sweat, it takes tears (seriously, you do have moments where you cry), and above all, it takes heart, dedication, discipline, and determination. Over the eight years that I have lifted, I have acquired knowledge that could possibly rival anyone out there who has been doing anything in the fitness industry for years on end. I know a little bit of a lot of nutrition, exercise, recovery, and as of late, ART/Myofascial release. Although I’m still learning, I’m still reading and researching, I’m a powerhouse of information.

My goal is to compete in my very first bodybuilding show, this November at the Max Muscle, an NPC show. I would like to own my own supplement line (true, raw, real supplements without the fluff, or proprietary blends), along with my own meal preparation service, personal training service, and even clothing line (because what company isn’t complete without an awesome T-shirt with a skull and barbell for bones???). I also would love to go back to school and major in Biology or Engineering, and work my way into the medical field to become either a neurologist, endocrinologist, or general practitioner (there is a reason for all this, believe me – I’ll probably cover this when I write about my future goals).

As of right now, I’m in the IT world, where I work a 9 to 5 gig, which for an athlete, isn’t great because of all the sitting – but I have a lot to be thankful for this job. A LOT to be thankful for.

I’m here to help everyone be the best they can be, to inspire everyone to change, and motivate everyone to be better than yesterday. I’m here to sprinkle the knowledge that I have, that has worked for me, and see to it that everyone – after they have exhausted all their possible resources – have me to give them that push they’ve been looking for.

So, in before too long, I didn’t read – I complete this post with a brief history of myself.

My name is Victor, and I’m here to help you Live Stronger.
